And now, what?

I passed my Membership exams. I can call myself a psychiatrist now.

I slowly realise this was only a milestone. There's much more to be learned.

Like, how not to discard the art in Psychiatry in the process of career advancement.

How not to forget the person the patient is while bearing in mind classification criteria, guidelines and research 'evidence'.

How to keep a sense of humour and mindfulness when everybody around you, including yourself, are overworked to the end of their wits.

As much as I envy those colleagues of mine who comfortably deny we are the tool of our trade I proudly declare I'm going to be an old school psychiatrist.

The sort that would have shared a fag with their patients.
